Our Mission
Volunteers in Defense of Animals is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN # 83-3097305) was founded in 2015 by a group of passionate volunteers who have been working for years to end the mistreatment and suffering of all animals. Our mission is to protect and help dogs and cats from homelessness, neglect, abuse, cruelty, and abandonment.
We rescue hundreds of homeless animals annually and work hard to find them the best homes; our goal is to see them go to happy, forever homes where they will never have to worry about homelessness again. We also sponsor spay and neuter campaigns for communities in need in the US as well as in Mexico. We also assist other rescues and provide animal welfare services for homeless dogs and cats in numerous cities of Mexico.
Our Vision is to see the end of mistreatment and exploitation of animals and see them in loving forever homes.
Most of our rescues are either from city animal controls that we work with or are rescued from the streets of Mexico. We serve these areas because our founding members have seen the lack of help for these animals. In Mexico, there are few animal shelters and even fewer people who adopt. There’s a lack of education on spay/neuter, so the streets are often packed with young animals, exposed to the elements and eating whatever they can get from the community. We work hard to give these animals a chance at a better life.
For us to fulfill our mission, we need your help!
Community support means everything to us, and without it, we wouldn't be able to do what we do today. A major part of our philosophy is that anyone can be a part of the shelter our mission. The shelter doesn’t belong to any one person or group, but rather to all of the people who give their time and energy towards our mission. Even if your way of contributing is small, every little bit counts. There are countless ways to support us and other local shelters in your area, and it's not just limited to on-site volunteering and donations. Navigate through different tabs on our website to see ways that you can help.
